Like those outfits seen in the pic above? They’re gonna cost you…
When it comes to Gotham City Imposters, the newest downloadable from Monolith Productions for Xbox 360 and PS3, there aren’t many people more excited than I am for the full on release of the game tomorrow. Playing the Open Beta of the game for the past 2 months has already told me that this is a quirky, Team Fortress 2-inspired game that I more than want to give a fair shot to over the next few weeks. But after seeing the absolute calvacade of DLC already available for the game before it has been released, I have to question what Monolith is doing with this game.
The Gotham City Imposters section of the Xbox Live Marketplace has revealed to a few keen-eyed Live users that the game will let you pay for early unlocks of in-game items including t-shirts, pants, and possibly even weapons. Paying to unlock things isn’t a new concept, as both EA and THQ have dabbled with purchasable Unlock Everything keys with games like Skate 3, and more recently Saints Row: The Third, for a few years now. But even then, those purchases usually ran the impatient gamer under $5 to get everything under the sun. With Gotham City Imposters, one wonders just how many people are going to be willing to spend upwards of 320msp ($4) for just a single pair of in-game pants.
Either way, the discovery of these items at such already available for download before the game’s launch has done nothing to help promote the already fairly obscure game from Monolith Productions. I’m still going to buy it as the beta was too much fun for me to pass up the full release, but there are already boycott groups springing up around the web, and that is never a good thing for developers.

As of 5:20pm CST there is no Gotham City Impostors on the PSN. I guess maybe it’ll be the 7th until midnight…
PSN updates anywhere from 6pm EST to 9pm EST, so it should be up by the end of tonight I’m guessing.
