The Endless backlog gets down and dirty as I really through one of my favorite racing games, Dirt 2.
I picked up Dirt 2 at a time where I was going through a racing drought, of sorts. Forza 3 had all but run its course and I was craving a looser, more high octane driving experience. I had always been a fan of the Rally stages that Gran Turismo would throw at you, and the only dedicated rally game I knew of on the Xbox 360 was Dirt 2. So i said the hell with it, lets give it a shot!
I didn’t put the pedal to the floor right away. I saw they had a demo out, so I figured I would give that a try before plopping down $20 on this title. 36 runs through the same stage later, I was officially hooked. I bought Dirt 2 on the PC ultimately, because it was “dirt” cheap. Hehe. I’ll stop now. It didn’t take me long to catch my groove, and before I knew it I was taking jumps in Trophy Trucks alongside Travis Pastrana and flipping the virtual bird to Ken Block as often as possible. God is he an asshole in this game.
I powered through Dirt 2 in about a month and retired by from the tour thoroughly satisfied. Dirt 2 is not a simulation racer but it isn’t an arcade affair either. it lives nicely between the two, and just feels great as you whip through drifts on narrow roads at 80 MPH. It is well worth whatever price you will pay for it now if you are even interested in the rally racing style.
